ISTANBUL HOSTS GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL

Istanbul hosts innumerable festivals throughout the year, but the recently held festival saw a gathering of foodies and chefs from all corners of the world.

The Tenth International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival, which ran from March 15 to 18, witnessed a competition for student chefs. The wannabe chefs were lucky enough to have watched the chefs-in-training compete in timed challenges.

The All Cooks Federation of Turkey (TAF), a member of the World Association of Chefs, is sponsoring this competition. Twenty two chefs from different countries have been invited. Thousands of chefs have assembled to contend in team and individual cooking challenges. The competition took place at Tuyap convention center in Büyükçekmece.

The stands were packed with a mix of students, chefs, wannabe cooks and press. A throng of students shouting a chef’s name could also be heard.

The little kitchens had all the amenities, built especially for the competition. The cubicles being in a line, the crowd watched all the chefs cook against the clock and each other. The crowd went berserk, shouting incessantly. Many visitors decided to join in the fun and had a spur-of-the-moment dance party.

The chefs displayed large wedding and special occasion cakes. The judges circulating throughout the Hall, scribbled notes on the presentation of the cakes. Apart from the competitions, businesses had set up kiosks throughout the convention center hall. In order to compete with the excitement of the cooking displays many business stalls were giving away free food and drinks.

The visitors had a great time with having tasted food from the best chefs as well as indulging in dance and frolic.
